Aromatherapy: The Natural Solution for Healthy Feet

aromatherapy

A lack of hydration and proper care for the skin of the feet often leads to the appearance of cracks and fissures. Exposure to cold, prolonged use of open footwear, excess weight, and the presence of certain conditions such as diabetes can contribute to extreme dryness of the skin on the feet. When left untreated, heels can develop deep fissures, which, in addition to becoming painful, facilitate the entry of infectious agents such as bacteria and fungi.

Aromatherapy can be a natural and effective solution to treat this problem. Thanks to its moisturizing, healing, and anti-inflammatory properties, vegetable oils and essential oils can help regenerate the skin, improving its elasticity and promoting the recovery of cracks and fissures.

Some essential and vegetable oils that stand out in the treatment of dry and cracked heels are:

  • Spike lavender essential oil (Lavandula latifolia): has healing and soothing properties, promotes cellular regeneration, and accelerates the healing of fissures.
  • Eucalyptus essential oil (Eucalyptus globulus): has antiviral and antifungal properties, which contributes to proper foot hygiene and helps complement allopathic treatments to achieve better and faster results.
  • Geranium essential oil (Pelargonium graveolens): excellent for balancing the skin’s natural oils, making it useful for deeply hydrating and revitalizing dry heels. Plus, it has a wonderful aroma!
  • Macadamia vegetable oil: rich in fatty acids that have the ability to penetrate the skin and absorb quickly, so it hydrates deeply without leaving an oily residue. Furthermore, it is rich in vitamin E, which has an antioxidant action (essential for protecting our cells).

But how do you actually use aromatherapy on your feet?

To make the most of the benefits of aromatherapy in podiatry, essential oils must be applied correctly. There are already products on the market that contain essential and vegetable oils already properly formulated for simple and practical application, such as the BioFeet® line. By using properly tested products, you will minimize the likelihood of adverse effects.

Incorporating aromatherapy into your podiatric care routine brings a range of benefits. In addition to directly treating the problem of dry and cracked heels, the regular use of essential oils helps improve overall foot health, preventing future problems such as fungi, calluses, and infections. The skin becomes softer, more hydrated, and more resistant to daily aggressions.

Despite being a natural solution, aromatherapy also has its contraindications and adverse effects if misused. To find out what best suits your needs, contact us and we will help with all our wisdom and care.
